Vinicius Jr hits back at fan jeers, denies rift with Xabi Alonso after Monaco win
Vinicius delivered a standout performance in the Champions League win, scoring once, providing two assists, and playing a role in Thilo Kehrer’s own goal. His contribution earned him the Man of the Match award, ahead of teammates such as Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham.
The result also marked Alvaro Arbeloa’s first Champions League victory as head coach. After a 3-2 defeat to Albacete in the Copa del Rey, Real Madrid have shown signs of recovery, scoring eight goals and conceding just one in their last two matches.
Speaking after the game, Vinicius addressed the recent boos from fans, particularly ahead of the match against Levante. "Playing for the biggest club in the world is very complicated, the demands are extremely high," he told Movistar+.
"But I am human too. I don't want to be booed in my home, where I feel very comfortable. In the last few games, I didn't feel comfortable because every time I did something wrong, I was booed."
He also responded to speculation about his relationship with Xabi Alonso. “The only thing I can do on the pitch is come in and give my all," he said. "I won’t always be at my best technical level, but I’ve always given everything for the team, I’ve always done everything I can to make everyone feel comfortable. When others lack goals, I try to assist; When I have to defend, I try to defend,”
Vinicius also commented on his contract situation. "I have one more year left on my contract," he said. "I trust the president, he trusts me and there is no rush".
Vinicius’ current deal runs until the summer of 2027, and discussions over a new contract are expected to continue. Real Madrid will next face Villarreal on 25 January before travelling to Portugal to play Benfica in the final match of the Champions League Swiss Stage.
