10. Shunsuke Nakamura (Japan)
Tenth on the list is Shunsuke Nakamura, one of the greatest footballers in Japanese history. Born in 1978, he played for several European clubs, including Reggina in Serie A, Celtic in Scotland, and Espanyol in La Liga. He reached his peak at Celtic, where he won the PFA Scotland Player of the Year award in 2007 and famously scored against Manchester United in the Champions League. Renowned as one of the best free-kick specialists in football history, Nakamura paved the way for Japanese players to prove their quality in Europe.
9. Mehdi Mahdavikia (Iran)
Mehdi Mahdavikia, the Iranian right winger, is considered one of the greatest players in his country’s history. He spent most of his club career in the Bundesliga, playing more than 10 years for Hamburger SV. He won the German League Cup in 2004 and the UEFA Intertoto Cup in the 2005/06 season. Born in 1983, Younis Mahmoud is an icon of Iraqi football and played a crucial role in Iraq’s historic Asian Cup triumph in 2007. As captain of the national team, he scored the winning goal in the final against Saudi Arabia, finished as the tournament’s top scorer, and was named Player of the Tournament. Over more than 10 years with the national team, he earned over 140 caps, scored more than 50 goals, and became a spiritual symbol of Iraqi football during one of the country’s most difficult periods.
7. Sami Al-Jaber (Saudi Arabia)
Sami Al-Jaber is a Saudi Arabian legend who won numerous trophies with Al-Hilal, including the AFC Champions League. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in West Asian football history. At international level, he earned 156 caps for Saudi Arabia and scored 46 goals. Notably, he scored in three different World Cups (1994, 1998, and 2002) and helped his national team qualify for four consecutive World Cups starting in 1994.
6. Keisuke Honda (Japan)
Considered one of the best footballers in Japanese history, Keisuke Honda played for several European clubs, most notably CSKA Moscow and AC Milan. Often regarded as the greatest Japanese footballer of all time, Hidetoshi Nakata spent most of his career in Serie A, playing for top clubs such as AS Roma, Parma, Bologna, and Fiorentina. He won the Serie A title with Roma in the 2000/01 season. 2. Cha Bum-kun (Korea)
