1. February 8, 1931: Athletic Bilbao 12:1 FC Barcelona
The first match on this list took place almost 100 years ago, during the second season of the league. It was the 10th round of the 1930/31 season, played at San Mames. In this match, striker Agustín Sauto Arana scored seven goals, setting a record for the most goals by a single player in one La Liga match. The other goals for Bilbao were scored by Gorostiza, Lafuente, Garizurieta, and one own goal from a Barcelona player. Barcelona’s only goal was scored by Severiano Goiburu in the 10th minute to make it 1-1. To this day, this remains the match with the largest winning margin in La Liga history.
2. September 29, 1940: Sevilla FC 11:1 FC Barcelona
Barcelona’s nightmare returned 10 years later on the opening day of the 1940/41 season. The match was played at Nervión, Sevilla’s former home stadium. Barcelona took the lead through Valle. However, in just 15 minutes, from the 23rd to the 38th minute, Sevilla scored eight goals.
