Ranking the Serie A 2023/24 top scorers: Lautaro Martinez outpaces all rivals
Inter Milan won the Serie A title with just 2 losses, 7 draws, and 29 wins, collecting a total of 94 points. Their dominance was clear, as second-placed AC Milan finished 19 points behind. Alongside this impressive record, Inter also boasted the strongest attack in the league with 89 goals. In this article, NowGoal Pro lists the Serie A 2023/24 top scorers.
Who led the Serie A 2023/24 top scorer list?
Lautaro Martínez won the Capocannoniere award, given to the player who scores the most goals in a Serie A season. In 2023/24, the Argentinian striker netted 24 goals, eight more than the runner-up. He also won the MVP award and surpassed the 100-goal mark in Serie A.
In the 2023/24 season, Lautaro and Marcus Thuram impressed in their first year playing together. With the addition of Thuram, Lautaro was given more freedom in attack and scored a wider variety of goals. One of the most remarkable moments of the season came against Salernitana, when Lautaro came on as a substitute and scored four goals in just 27 minutes, setting a Serie A record.

Second on the list is Dušan Vlahović, the Juventus striker. Juventus finished third with 71 points and 54 goals, with Vlahović contributing 16 of them, nearly a third of the team’s total. Unlike Lautaro, who relies on movement, Vlahović uses his height and strength to dominate aerial duels and is also known for his powerful left-footed shots.
Olivier Giroud ranked third and played his final season at AC Milan in 2023/24. Due to his age, Giroud focused more on hold-up play, positioning, and heading. Even so, the French striker scored an impressive 15 goals, including crucial strikes against Napoli, Juventus, and AS Roma.
Victor Osimhen, after a breakout 2022/23 season, was unable to replicate the same level of success. The Nigerian striker missed 13 Serie A matches due to injury, and Napoli’s instability also played a major role. The club went through three coaches - Rudi Garcia, Walter Mazzarri, and Francesco Calzona - none of whom managed to establish a stable system. As a result, Osimhen struggled to compete for the top scorer title.
One of the standout stories of the 2023/24 season was Albert Guðmundsson. Playing for newly promoted Genoa, he delivered an outstanding campaign thanks to his versatility. He featured as an attacking midfielder, winger, and number 10, using his movement between the lines to trouble defenders. He scored 14 goals, provided 4 assists, and ranked among the top three players for chances created. His performances quickly attracted attention, and Fiorentina signed him the following season.
Lautaro Martínez’s ideal partner, Marcus Thuram, also enjoyed an excellent debut season at Inter. He scored 13 goals and provided 7 assists, finding the net in many key matches, including the Milan derby and games against Roma, Juventus, and Napoli. Thuram’s mobility, developed from his background as a winger, made him a perfect complement to Lautaro, as he often drifted left or dropped deep to create space.
Despite ongoing fitness issues, Paulo Dybala still managed 13 goals and 9 assists for AS Roma, proving to be the team’s main creative force. He also played an important supporting role for Romelu Lukaku, helping the Belgian striker adapt quickly. Lukaku himself scored 13 league goals, ranking ninth overall. He spent only one season at Roma on loan before moving to Napoli.
Dušan Zapata was another notable case in the 2023/24 season, scoring 13 goals for two different clubs. He played two matches for Atalanta, scoring once, before moving to Torino, where he added 12 more goals. He became a key player under Ivan Jurić, whose team comfortably avoided relegation and even pushed for a place in European competition.
Another Inter Milan name on the list is midfielder Hakan Çalhanoğlu. Despite playing in a deep-lying role, he scored 13 goals, 10 of them from penalties. Even with two strikers in the team, Çalhanoğlu remained Inter’s primary penalty taker and converted all 10 of his attempts. In addition, his trademark long-range shots, often described as “rockets,” were crucial in several matches.
