Man City to face Newcastle, Chelsea against Arsenal or Crystal Palace in Carabao Cup semi finals
The Carabao Cup quarter-finals are coming to an end, with three semi-finalists already confirmed. Chelsea were the first to book their place after a 3-1 win over Cardiff City, with a brace from Alejandro Garnacho and another goal from Pedro Neto. On Wednesday night, Manchester City beat Brentford 2-0 thanks to goals from Rayan Cherki and Savinho. Later, Newcastle edged past Fulham 2-1, sealing the win with a late goal from Lewis Miley.
As a result, three of the four semi-finalists are known, with the final spot to be decided next week when Arsenal host Crystal Palace. That match was originally scheduled for this week but was postponed due to Crystal Palace’s Conference League commitments, and will now be played at the Emirates Stadium just before Christmas.
Despite the final quarter-final yet to be played, Carabao Cup organisers have gone ahead with the semi-final draw. The two semi-final ties will be Manchester City vs Newcastle and Chelsea vs Arsenal or Crystal Palace. Both semi-finals will be played over two legs, with Chelsea hosting the first leg of their tie, while Newcastle will host Manchester City in the first leg.
The first-leg matches are scheduled for the third week of January, starting on 12 January, with the second legs to be played two weeks later in the first week of February, beginning on 2 February. The Carabao Cup final will take place at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, 22 February.
Among the remaining teams, Crystal Palace are the only club yet to win the competition, while Newcastle are the current holders. Liverpool remains the most successful club in Carabao Cup history with 10 titles, followed by Manchester City with eight, Manchester United with six and Chelsea with five.
